It's going to take a long time to sink into some people's heads. It's not going to be pretty!

You are so RIGHT on that. I could live a small Euro lifestyle, if I lived in a small Euro country! ;-) Really, we are trying to divest ourselves of stuff and go greener and smaller. I hate going to the grocery or farmer's market and find a huge expedition has parked too close and I can't even get in the driver's side. When will these people get some consideration and compassion?

I think there are mysterious forces at work here, so your theory makes complete sense.

But I also think we hit Peak Oil a couple of years ago. I genuinely believe the merican way of life --- that is, car culture, suburbia, etc. - is now over, although it will take many Americans ten years to figure that out.

My own theory is that with the bursting of the housing bubble, there has been alot of money wanting a place to invest and that added to the push on crude, wheat and rice futures. They got in and pushed up and got out and left others holding the bag.
I do think you are right that we will not see a big reduction in prices. I anticipate the family food diary.

There's also the issue of Peak Oil. Everything will be skyrocketing in price, and the poor will suffer the most from it.
