There were several of them, but the best was Mark II. Mark I was OK, and had one hit called “Go Now”, but replacing the lead singer and guitar player with Justin Hayward and John Lodge was genius.
Everyone remembers “Nights in White Satin”. Never reaching the end. Words that I’ve written, never meaning to send. Feelings like these that I just had before, just what the truth is, I can’t say anymore. But I love you, yes I love you, oh yes I love you!
This band was marvelous. They also dropped a lot of LSD. Just look at the album cover of “In Search of the Lost Chord” and tell me that those guys were in their right minds. But that does not matter. The music was, and still, is wonderful. Sure, I love The Who, but these folks are all right, too.
They loved Star Trek, and you can hear it with the opening of “In Search of the Lost Chord”, from 1966. Listen closely and you will hear the warp engines energizing. I kid you not. It is in the opening poem, called “Departure”. I will paraphrase it now. As the warp engines engage, it goes “… and to fly the the sun without burning a wing, and to lie in the meadow and hear the grass sing, and to have all of these things in our memories, stored, to have them, to help us, haaaa, haaa haaa! Ride my Seesaw!
I guess that I got a bit out of hand, but that was and is still one of the best bands ever. They were (and still are, since they still tour) great, and were the other part of the British Invasion. The Who are still my favorites, but Mrs. Translator and I named two boys from them, Justin and Jonathan.
If anyone has any videos, I would love to see them. They were and are excellent musicians, and likely nice folks. Warmest regards, Doc.

Love them too! I saw the first version live in London (Denny Lane’s “Go Now” was played every morning at 5am at the Speakeasy nightclub. It cleared the place, and now I’m playing it every night st my place for the very same purpose) then the Justin Hayward version, at the Middle Earth nightclub, several times, alongside Jimi Hendrix, the Who, Traffic, The Move, Pretty Things (love that band too!) and so many more! I spent two years out on the tiles every single night…that’s what you do when you’re nineteen!
