Yeah! I love Friday 13, best day for luck…though today I’ve had a migraine from eating rice for 3 days, same as willowspirit. Next week we’ll do the potato monodiet and see.
In fact, good watermelon is pure sugar – sweeter than a candy bar. And tastier. omg!

I’ve reverted to sheer Okie comfort food to get me through the stress of the next few days — stress that’s reached such a pitch that, today, I broke into hives! Hives, I tell you!
First, it was the platter of biscuits and sausage gravy yesterday. ZOMG! Today: cornmeal mush (known by more sophisticated souls as polenta ) fried in olive oil.
Then, okra dipped in egg and rolled in cornmeal and fried to within an inch of its life.
I am having real trouble getting my okra to grow this year. I do not know why, but only about 10% germinate, and those do not thrive. It is usually one of the easiest things to grow.
Hey, AAF, your reply to yesterday’s quiz says “Answers” but only the questions are repeated. Warmest regards, Doc.
BTW, willowspirit, who replied to your post yesterday, is my better half!

Looks like only so many levels of replies are allowed, so I will use this level to thank willowspirit and everyone else for their encouragement. Nice to know of the connection between the two of you. Warmest regards, Doc.

Biscuit, have you tried vitamin B12? It does wonders for stress.
What I really need, tho, is a bank which doesn’t tell me “oh, we have everything we need from you!” then 2 days later call me after hours and leave me a message that they need this this and this then I spend hours gathering up everything I need – 5 days before the scheduled closing, mind you – and undoing half the packing I’ve done in the process, only to …
::deep breath::
… have them say oh no, we need this, too! meaning I have to run into work, tell them I have an emergency because the papers they “forget” to tell me they need are at home which is 40 miles from work and the bank, then run home, tear through everything to get that paperwork, drive back only to have them tell me well, we’re not sure about the closing …
::deep breath::
… to which I reply you mean, my mortgage is being turned down? why didn’t anyone tell me? to which they say no no if you were being turned down it would have happened weeks ago! it’s just that – well, you never know – to which I say so is my closing on Monday to which they say we don’t know but you need to get a cashier’s check for such and such amount to which I say fine who do I make it out to to which they say …
::deep breath::
… with a shocked look I might add oh no don’t get the cashier’s check yet instead call us 3 hours before the closing if you haven’t heard from us to make sure it’s still on …
::deep breath::
… to which I say wtf???
And a message from the realtor today saying well, I think the closing is Monday but nobody’s sure yet and I’ll see if I can find out Monday what you owe for the closing.
Take it easy. If it’s any comfort, you should know that my last three purchases (Sydney, L.A and here in Eire) were just as unnerving, particularly the last one where we had to wait 4 months before they made up their minds, nearly drove me nuts…but that’s the game they play. Hang on, it could be a lot worse.
That’s our biscuit. Never at a loss for words, that one.

Now that sounds just like a normal day in Mexico. Nothing makes sense here and just when you think you’ve figured out the situation, it changes. Someone will start a sentence with “well it only makes sense that such and such will happen” where upon we all start laughing and say wait a minute. We forget where we are. Don’t worry biscuit, these things always work out.
Note to southern quebec: I went to the library today and checked out Colin Coterill’s The Coroner’s Lunch. Read the first chapter while waiting for a client to show for a meeting. ZOMG, as our esteemed biscuit would say, I was really miffed when the client showed up and I had to put the book down!
Came home, dropped an armload of stuff including the book in a chair in the living room. My son just now brought me the book… in pieces, courtesy of one of the puppies.
So far I am loving it. The language in the prologue alone is amazing — just three paragraphs with a vivid yet dreamlike/nightmarish quality to them. The kind of images that haunt.
Did the cat eat the purple lizard? He looks awfully content..
I just spent a long day (nine hours!) at work, facing another long shift tomorrow, but this is such a nice place to be, reading about books and Mexican-attitude realtors (they teach a course in Closing Confusion in House Sales 101, I think)and mango/chocolate terrines..one can forget about long hours at work and the craziness outside.
What a nice place to hang out!
I have a new little friend, a pure white cat with bright green eyes. I have see mostly white cats before, but I have not found a single piece of fur on this one that not pure white. Her ears get sunburnt easily, and she will not listen to me about using sunblock.
She is the perfect pet for me because she belongs to the folks across the street. Sort of the pet equivalent of a grandchild: you can play with them and feed them when you want, and then send them home when you get tired of them. I have not given her a name, since she is not mine.
If it stops raining tomorrow I will try to get a good picture of her, since I do not allow her into the house. She is “my” “porch cat”. Warmest regards, Doc.
Me, too. Mighty nice bunch of folks, even to someone who gets prickly now and then. I have been talking us up on Kos, and some folks are stopping by here. Warmest regards, Doc.

I love Fridays but not because it’s the weekenk (I work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)but because it’s my lucky day.
You do know it’s Friday the 13th, don’t you?
Yeah! I love Friday 13, best day for luck…though today I’ve had a migraine from eating rice for 3 days, same as willowspirit. Next week we’ll do the potato monodiet and see.
I could easily do a mashed potatoes monodiet.
Or a watermelon – *ripe* watermelon, that is – monodiet.
I don’t think I could survive on watermelon for 3 days! I need starch or carbs!
Watermelon is pure carbs!
In fact, good watermelon is pure sugar – sweeter than a candy bar. And tastier. omg!

And hangovers!
I’m probably deficient. No doubt.

At least now I have a good excuse to buy it!
I’m getting it. It’s been too long since I’ve been unable to put a book down.

oooh, my kind of book!

No no, the cat is a subtle reminder that it’s Friday the 13th. The lizard will return tomorrow.
Good catch, kate! I love black cats, and would run, at will, under any ladder as well on friday the thirteenth!
