Mowing tonight. Farmers market, then the peach festival tomorrow a.m., then more mowing at the old place tomorrow evening. Sunday, painting here, and I leave for a trip early Monday morning. Back on Wednesday, I think? Then I begin packing for … Puerto Rico!

Buffalo and fresh corn for dinner tonight. I’m hoping to bring my messy old smoker up tomorrow evening because the corn crop’s in, and boy, is it good this year! and I can’t wait to smoke some.

Oooh! Instructions on smoking corn, please!

Nothing special - just the wood of your choice (in my case, hickory because I have so much of it) — wrap corn in foil and smoke!

If I get enough peaches, I might try it with them, too. Aren’t you the one who was smoking peaches??

No, but that sounds like it would be tasty, too. And it’s peach season. Hm…..

I did get some luscious organic strawberries today. I think I am going to dehydrate those.

I’m planning to be at the peach festival tomorrow the minute I can drag myself out of bed!

I want a bushel. Or two.

Oh, try taking the silk out and putting the shucks back on before the foil. Maybe even butter and salt and pepper on the corn. Then smoke.

We did our yearly festival called Lakefair at the Democratic Burger Booth and I smell like grilled onions and beef. Boy am I tired.
Going to Farmer’s Market tomorrow and planning on the peach-bluberry-rosemary freezer jam. We had some of the strawberry-basil freezer jam last weekend and it was really nice. Awaiting the blackberry vines fruiting later this summer for some cobbler and jam.
I am listening to the neatest program on Public Radio about animal, mammal, bird intelligence, “To the Best of Our Knowledge” at ttbook.org, it is the most interesting and fascinating show.
BTW, we had to wear light jackets today, it was really cool!

Hoagies tonight for the guys. I’m not sure yet what I will have.

          Farmer’s market tomorrow here too.

Totally o/t - well, okay, maybe not so much - but all the homesteading forums are fighting with each other again.

God, it’s sooo embarrassing, but I even know most of the key players … even though they probably wouldn’t remember me because I bailed on all the homesteading forums in 2003 because they fight too much. Kind of like dKos!

In any case, as far as I can tell, some 5 of them are in pitched battle with one another right now, including 3 forums which are *private* invitation only so they can troll each other.

  omg, so much more fun than mowing!!!

I got totally sucked into a war earlier this summer between the proprietors of Life After the Oil Crash and Survival Acres Blog. It boiled down to one of them accusing the other of trying to make money off the coming peak oil crisis while simultaneously holding himself up as this pure knight of selflessness in spreading the word… while he was selling the heck out of freeze-dried storable food for (you guessed it) the coming peak oil crisis.

It was highly amusing. Sad, but highly amusing.

edited to add: I did not participate in this war, but I admit to reading it every day to see just what outrageous things had been said since I last checked in. I’m so bad.

OMG, I *have* to go find that one!

This homesteading one is especially entertaining for me because IT’S ALL THE SAME PEOPLE WHO WERE FIGHTING (and dragging me into their squabbles) HOW MANY YEARS AGO?

omg, that’s be 5 FIVE five years ago, and they’re still on the internet fighting in exactly the same way about exactly the same things, with the only difference being they’ve split into some 5-6-7 homesteading boards.

We all started at the Psychotic Farmers Forum, though - wait, I think a few were from Greenspun.

And yes - sad, but highly amusing.

Okay, so I don’t find it so sad for these guys. Good gawd almighty, 5 years is long enough to find something useful to do with your time rather than spend it on blog… er, never mind!

Yeah, well, we’re different. We don’t fight!
