Hey, where is everybody, hungover?? Hummmmm? I am making pizza for dinner. Homemade crust that I will post someday, pesto, mushrooms, onions, hard pecorino romano cheese, and whatever else I find in the fridge.
We are going away to camp Friday at the yearly Scottish Festival and listen to oodles of pipe bands and scottish cattle and dogs and sheep herding, and meat pies and Scottish Country Dancing, and lots of celtic music and haggis! Oh, and lots and lots of beer!
Cheers!
The festival is in Enumclaw, WA. More Pipe Bands at that than I have ever seen in one place. If you like pipes, this is the place to be. We’re also going to the Pirate Festival in Portland in September. Argh!
Bouncer! That sounds so righteous! I can hardly wait to see the pictures.
Old downtown Auburn is a place I like and visit. You been there lately? They have rail to Seattle. It’s really neat.
The BEST Greek Restaurant is in the downtown area, KUOROS. The owners are so nice and the food and service are excellent! Oh my.
I’ve been in and out of here today in between work things.
I go in cycles — there are days when I can write effortlessly and there seems to be no dearth of subjects. Other days, like today, it all seems like a huge “nobody cares and it’s all bad news so why bother?”
My humors must be out of balance, because on those melancholy days I don’t want to eat either. Perhaps I need a leech.
Or wait…
Diuretics, or medicines to procure urine, are prescribed by some in this kind, hot and cold: hot where the heat of the liver doth not forbid; cold where the heat of the liver is very great: amongst hot are parsley roots, lovage, fennel, &c.: cold, melon seeds, &c., with whey of goat’s milk, which is the common conveyer.
To purge and purify the blood, use sowthistle, succory, senna, endive, carduus benedictus, dandelion, hop, maidenhair, fumitory, bugloss, borage, &c., with their juice, decoctions, distilled waters, syrups, &c.
Oh, we’ve gone thru a bit of an Elizabethan orgy here…watched: Shakespeare in Love, Elizabeth and Much Ado About Nothing this week so far. I’m in an apothecary mood. Potions and unguents!
Cheer up, Kate! I like your cure! I actually have whey of goat’s milk in the fridge and parsley roots, melon seeds, want me to send you some for procuring urine?
Well, I am home from Day Surgery - my port removal went very well - good drugs! Actually, they did not drug me as much taking it out as they did putting it in, as it was a shorter, less complicated procedure. I have a small open wound on my chest that I will have to pack with Iodoform gauze tomorrow, but since I’ll be at work, I’ll get one of the staff to help me.
I’m not supposed to drive so I’ll have to make do with what I have on hand in the kitchen…it looks like another pasta with garlic and (home-grown) cherry tomatoes night.
The jalapenos are producing fruit like crazy - so it looks like I’m going to be making jelly very soon…
Me too! I’m glad for you drchelo. I’m glad you have help from your staff. You are a miracle!
I remember when my Mother had the drain removed from her chest in the Dr’s office with NO MEDS! I was about 5 and knew then I never wanted to go to a doctor. She had breast cancer twice at 37 and 39 I was 3 & 5. Radical mastectomies both times, really radical. But guess what? She survived for 40+ years more, she raised me to be who I am. She was determined to survive at a time that this was a death sentence. Will is all important in all our lives.
Biscuit, sorry you had such a hard day. I’ve been planning “The Cookbook”. Also, a hard thing to figure out.
Oh, how do you make your buffalo chuck? My sweetie loves buffalo. Cole slaw pickle juice-what kind sweet, sour, dill, bread & butter?? I have great dill and bread and butter recipes! Been eating them since last September.
Very, very simple. The buffalo here is gorgeous stuff, and all the chuck requires is either a bit of time in a crockpot set at low with the lid on (the crockpot cooks a bit hot, so that low might be a medium for someone else) OR a bit of time in my Breville electric wok.
It comes out wonderfully, no matter what. True, the arm roast is a bit more tender - but, oh, the chuck has some *flavor!!*
Wow, we have buffalo burgers in the fridge the last of the lot. We grilled last Sunday pretty plainly with just pepper and a little bit of Iron Works rub (from Austin). Delicious.
I love chuck! I have a crock pot I made some country ribs in that are boneless and I just added some bar-b-Q sauce to and cooked low. They came out wonderful.
This year we grilled the country ribs. They were also wonderful. I love grilling once a week in the summertime. I can get meat or chicken or fish and then portobellos, peppers and onions and even potatoes. Cooking for the week!
Teena and Geoff are in transit from Alaska to Arkansas even now. I can not sleep until I hear from them, so an all nighter. They should touch down in Arkansas in about six hours. Warmest regards, Doc.
It’s been a fairly slow day today. I went looking for food news but it was all so depressing I took a nap instead.
Anyone have any good news? Did anything nice happen to you today?

Is the Scottish festival in Portland? I used to go when I lived there. Lots of fun!
Mango!

How was your waitressing? Was it fun?
My new job starts on Saturday. I just found out that all five feet one, a hundred fifteen pounds is also a bouncer. God! I can hardly wait!
wtg, mango!
I was raised in Auburn so you are in my tierra.

That sounds a little better.

So GLAD that that thing is gone!

Wow. What an incredible mom!
My mom was a really strong person to survive like she did. I cherish her to this day and pass down to my daughter and step-daughters her legacy.
You go, drchelo!
I’m very, very happy to know it’s over and done with!
I believe that I can speak for everyone here by rooting for our friend, drchelo! You get better, OK? Warmest regards, Doc.
Laura says she is “so done with that Crawford thing…” Reports are that she is house-shopping in Dallas.
I knew that the pig farm would be up for sale on January 20.
I actually think there may be separate dwellings. He can go clear brush and she can read books, have a toddy and smoke. Poor thing.
Now if we can send the bigger porcine to The Hague. Warmest regards, Doc.
You got it, Doc. He is not welcome in Crawford.
Lo-o-o-ong day at work. My whole morning was spent with students, then I wrote (syllabi, lessons0 etc) straight from 11 a.m. til 5.
Ayiiiii, this brain stuff can be exhausting!
But I picked up a very nice buffalo chuck on the way home, and it’s roasting as we speak.
Dinner so far has been cole slaw. The secret ingedient: pickle juice!

Doc,
I hope they got back safely. AR and AK are so different!!!
