Sorry the pics so dark, but I didn’t want to disturb the little darlin’ during his/her nap.

I just went to Big Lots and loaded up on food for the students, who are absolutely starving to death and bankrupting me in the process.

&^%$## school signed a contract with some food service so we can no long make big pots of chili etc. And the cafeteria is way dar away, too far away for the kids who are waking up early for their sports then going to back to back classes then, etc.

I usually keep food around for them, but hadn’t had a chance to stock up yet. The consequence: *both* my lunches got eaten by starving students. ::sigh::

In any case, I buy food at one of those Big Lot places and store it in my drawers and cupboards for them. And sometimes, you can find great stuff on sale there.

Today’s find: an amazingly good hummus — AND very promising looking canned garbanzos — AND jars of caponata, which I am thrilled about because even local eggplants are costing an arm and a leg around here.

In any case, I just thin sliced some buffalo and tried the hummus with it - it’s rockin’!

Oh and heads up, Translator! Someone brought me a boatload of home grown cookin’ apples today. I just wish it were the weekend …

Cool! Just keep them in the cold, and discard any that look bad, and work them down a little at a time. I just took a cobbler out of the oven, with the best of the apples from Preacher. Warmest regards, Doc.

He’s adorable! In a very amphibious sort of way.

Gee, guys, sorry I haven’t been around this weekend. We went to Mt. Rainier on Friday and it was really hot and a really high ozone level. The hike really took it out of this 60 yo body. At 5,400′ to 6,000′ it’s quite a feat to just put one foot in front of the other when it’s almost 100 and the ozone is this high. I didn’t realize what a wuss I was living down at sea level!
Biscuit, that picture is amazing, what a sleepy boy! He is pretty! I had a sparrow land on my knee on the back porch this afternoon. We looked at each other and he freaked and I was excited. Earlier in the day when I was feeding one of the squirrels, I got to stroke his cheek without him freaking out or moving off. It was really neat.
Good to be back among the living!

Ayiii! You need blood thick with red corpuscles to be tramping around at that altitude.

But you need thin blood to be tramping around in the heat.

            What a bodily conundrum.

You’re a braver woman than me. That’s why the sparrow landed on your knee. :)

              Thanks, sweetie!
I am determined to walk/run (interval training) at least 2 miles every day to be able to go back in September and hike the Skyline Trail to the REALLY COOL waterfall. I just have to!

Looks like a tree frog. The ones around home can change colors to some extent to resemble their surroundings. They eat lots of insects, and are adorable anyway, so let us be kind to them. Warmest regards, Doc.

Tree frog it is. I loves me some tree frogs!

              I think it’s a cope’s grey.

When I lived in Austin, I had a little creek behind my house and when it would rain the frogs came out. When it was a “gully washer” they really came out. And sang and sang and sang all night and did their froggy love stuff. Every “gully washer” it was like this. I always knew I’d be serenaded by the frogs. I even had a HUGE one the size of a man’s fist living in a hole in my backyard one year. I love froggies!
