Outwit the Nitwit, Volume III - Petroleum

The second installation did not go over very well, and I accept the blame for it. It was without structure, and this one will have a bit.
This time there is a topic: petroleum. This is not to say that other questions are not welcome, but the focus of this post is questions regarding that substance.
In my opinion, petroleum is very too much valuable to burn for its heat content. The raw materials from it make not only fuels for motive power and electricity, but also starting molecules for pharmaceuticals, plastics, fibers, and just about everything that you touch every day.
I maintain that petroleum is much too valuable to burn for its energy content. I believe that it is much too valuable for other uses, as I just specified. There are few better fuels, but there is no replacement for petroleum for other uses. With that said, please think of this as an open forum on thoughts, questions, and comments about the use of petroleum.
As always, I am dancing naked, with no long pauses to look things up on Wikipedia, except for physical constants if a question about such things arises. If I do not know an answer I will say so, and ask others in the community to respond. So, here we go. Warmest regards, Doc.

I am glad you changed the name of it. I was rather bothered by “Stump the Chump.”
Someone on Kos told me that it was copyright infringement. I still am not fully comfortable with the title. Any suggestions, all? Warmest regards, Doc.
I’m not terribly fond of this one either (it’s just better than the first) but don’t have a suggestion.
Hm.
What are your thoughts on Peak Oil?
I think that it is real, and unless we stop burning it we will regret it. Warmest regards, Doc.
Okay.
Should we all be saving every bit of plastic that our grimey little paws can get hold of, store all of it safely away and plan to use it as barter goods when Zombiegeddon arrives? ::joking:: ::okay, so I’m not, not really::
I’d say save every bit of plastic, store it all safely away and use it later when they don’t make it anymore, regardless of zombies.
::damn::
Those bits of plastic are starting materials for even more important materials. I think that throwing it out is a bad idea, but what do I know? Warmest regards, Doc.
I say converting to glass and metal containers and mixing bowls. Do you use crockery plates and bowls, how about glass glasses? I try to use as much of that stuff as possible. I use my canning jars for more than canning.
I use glass jars for canning, plastic for highly acidic materials like cherries and tomatoes, and stainless steel for intermediate things. Warmest regards, Doc.
But, Doc, plastic stains so badly and gets really icky when you try to reheat in a microwave with tomato based products. It even smells bad. Why is that?
I never heat up plastic in the microwave oven. Only glass or porcelain containers. Plastic melts from the heat from the food, and that is not good. Warmest regards, Doc.
I am tired and am going to bed, even though it is early tonight. Warmest regards, Doc.
