How was your day back at work today? The “Gustav Effect” is pretty much gone, but it did leave behind a cool breeze, and positively frigid temperatures, with the high in only the high 80’s!
Ahh - to think that those are the REAL high temperatures in summertime in some places.
Moonflowers are beautiful. Is the lizard hiding behind it somewhere? My anoles are having Baby Lizard School in the Patchouli Patch..and the babies are growing beautifully, studying fly-catching, leaf-peeping, and color-changing.
Palin? Who’s that?
I’m having so much fun at work now. A new student has landed in my office, and she’s a brilliant writer … or, maybe better said, she’s on her way. What fun it is to work with her! And a longtime student of mine is in the middle of making a big turn-around - whew. He’s so smart, but he just didn’t want to do what he had to do before.
The break was much needed.
No doubt, there are skinks lurking behind the moonflower! I had some grown up skinks living on the front porch (the better to eat the mice trying to run in under the front door, I suppose), and they were never very good at hiding.
Palin is McCain’s VP choice. Unless you’re joking. Which I suspect you are. She’s flatout nuts!!!!
A one-time colleague of mine (he is a turkey-farmer-turned doctor) has a great expression describing Sarah Palin:
“She’s crazier than a tree full of squirrels”.
Let’s see. This morning I went to the foot doctor, since mango doesn’t have one in her area. Then I picked up the spouse for his 2:30 pm appointment with the endocrinologist. We left there at 5:30 pm. His blood sugar was somewhere below sea level at that point so I had to take him immediately to eat, do not pass Go, and we just got home.
I’m glad the moonflower was waiting in the wings for a Lizard Night Out.
I went to the foot doctor because until a week or so ago my feet were really painful. I got some new shoes and they are already better, but I figured I’d better go anyway to make sure that there wasn’t anything really wrong.
Turns out I have really high arches (think St Louis), and the bad callouses and painful joints at the base of the big and little toes are because I spend most of my time barefoot and my feet don’t flex very well. “Wear shoes!” he said forcefully, shaking his finger. “Your feet need cushioning and stability! Forget arch supports! Think cushioning!”
He offered cortisone shots in the most painful areas. I declined.
I did ask him about mango’s squishy toe problem. He asked if maybe she had a bruise under the toenail that was bleeding and said she could call and make an appointment. I said she was in Mexico. He said he wasn’t licensed in Mexico, so sorry.
Now imagine all this in a Noo Joizy accent and a very loud voice emanating from a very small man with a Sigmund Freud beard. It was actually quite entertaining.
Big toe update!
I went to the Dr. today and it is gout.
No shrimp, cheese, beef, pork, or alcohol. That leaves beans and rice I guess. I will do the turkey breast today in the crockpot.
Thanks for your help, especially you Kate.
Yes, I took the picture at night.
As for Palin, omg, she’s a total fruitcake!!

Okay, I think I missed something.
Why did you have to go to the foot doctor? Or were you just doing mango a favor?

Oh, I have very high arches! They *are* a pain. But I always wear shoes, except n the house.
Hope you and the hubs are both feeling better.
