10:41 a.m.: Off to my ING account to change that one savings account from a taxes/insurance account to a “doors for kitchen/completely demolish that horrible bathroom” account.

Tell us all about the horrible bathroom and just why it needs demolishing - inquiring minds want to know!

The living room is gorgeous, despite the 1000 nails I’ve had to pull out of the walls.

And the one bathroom … yikes. The full bath needs some updating, but it will be fine - it’s on the bottom of my list of things to do.

This bath, though — it’s in a room right off the kitchen, and I suspect it was used as a bedroom/homecare/hospice care for the former owner’s mother. It was glaringly apparent when I moved in that her mother was incontinent, and it’s taken me two months to clean up that.

But she was also a smoker, and it stinks.

And the vanity is just covered (albeit scrubbed) with the evidence of both severe debility and smoking. And the medicine cabinet is rusted and scary. And the shower is one of those ’60s - ’70s style plastic all-in-ones. I’m amazed they didn’t flood the place.

          But the toilet is good!

In any case, this will be my priciest re-do. The bathroom is really too small for a vanity, so it will be an old fashioned sink, new floors, nice medicine cabinet and a real live shower. I predict without paint, it will run me at least $2500 - $3000.

Tell us - what color is the tile in the Awful Bathroom?
My house was built in 1955 - and the tile/marble in the hall bathroom (no shower or bath, thank goD!) is a deep maroon! Light ash-colored wall fabric on the walls saved it…but imagine if the entire bathroom was covered in blood-maroon tile!

The Awful Bathroom is a dingy old white.

Are your tiles the fun 1950s tiles or the awful 1950s tiles?

Right now, I’m plotting on putting aside thousands of dollars and turning The Awful Bathroom into a wonderful Bungalow Worthy bathroom.

1:35 p.m.: Cell phone rings. I see that it is my whiniest friend - the San Francisco macrobiotic who is chronically broke and hasn’t figured out after 10 years maybe she’s so broke because she can’t afford to live in San Francisco, and who is always weak and tired, and hasn’t figured out maybe she would feel better if she ate something besides rice, and who is always complaining about her mother and hasn’t figured out her mother is 75 and lives clear across the country so what’s there t complain about, and who spends hours complaining about things I can’t even remember anymore.

I grab phone, run with it to my soon to be bedroom (after it’s painted and I get a mattress for my gorgeous vintage rattan bed which was given to me a few weeks ago), and shove it deep into my undie drawer, hoping to muffle the sound of it ringing.

What an exciting day you are having! I had a turkey sandwich for lunch, and redjean took a photo of my toe to send off to drchelo. I am being invaded with chickens coming home to roost in my front room. Why do they do they want to come inside my house? I never bother them in their house!
Next week, I may be painting too. Either that or jean and I will re cover my couch cushions. I found some lovely fabric in Manzanillo.

I contemplate going to work in somewhat clean clothes, but remember the lady who works in the copy shop told me one of the instructor’s breath smells “like butt” (omg!) and decide against it, for fear semi-clean clothes might lead to my breath smelling that bad. I am hopeful it is the horrible history teacher’s breath that smells that way - or maybe the evil Comp teacher’s. My life would be perfect if it were only so.

My morning began in the UUC choir for the first time in a long I am singing choral music. We sang “The Water is Wide.” a traditional folk song with cello, french horn, flute and piano accompaniment. It was so beautiful! We had a retreat yesterday at one choir member’s farm and practiced outside in a grove of trees beside a pond.
I was chatting with another 1st soprano and she said she also had lived in Austin. Where? Oh, says I, that’s out where two of my good friends lived. Where, says she? I tell her, we get more specific….WOW, she lived on the same property and sold 6 acres to one of my dearest friends and we never met as she left Austin before I really knew my friend well. Small world….it’s amazing!
This afternoon I went to County Dem HQ to be trained for the front desk later this week and who should walk in but one of the new people to the church who just moved from Alaska to canvass for Obama!
