Ooooh, that means more rain here. We hit our yearly average a few months ago.

Guess I better get the sump pump fixed before I buy those doors …

We have one heading our way. A Pacific storm named Lowell. The news says it will be a hurricane and should hit by the middle of the week. Oh boy!

Last year seemed like such a calm year for hurricanes - this one is turning into a bit of a doozy.

I should be so lucky as to get some rain from Ike…Dallas is often on the “clean” side of hurricanes - that side that receives the strong northerly counter-winds, as opposed to the “dirty” side, the side that gets the soaking rains, and the tornadoes and violent weather.
I just would take some of that awful rain that Haiti and Cuba took, and send them some of this nice, sunny, Dallas weather.
In 2005, with Katrina and Rita, all Dallas got was a really, REALLY hot dry summer.
Oh, well. It’s like Charlie Brown trying to play football with Lucy. I keep hoping that some summer won’t be too hot or too dry.
          Hope springs….

I remember 2005, even in Austin, I couldn’t keep my garden watered enough. Herbs did great, though. I really hate that we just disregard all the suffering that all the islands get, Cuba and Haiti especially. We don’t give any aid to Cuba. What is wrong with us?

            drchelo,

Try Monica Aca y Alla in Deep Ellum if you haven’t already. It’s great! And quite a surprise for some.

I ate at Monica’s a couple of weeks ago - it has gone down in the quality of its food from my last time there. She has another restaurant in Oak Lawn - Ciudad - that is much more upscale and serves divine Mexico City-style food.
In Oak Cliff, Melody Townsel introduced me to Cafe Madrid, a WONDERFUL restaurant in a beautiful Oak Cliff bungalow, all airy rooms, pretty Spanish/Moorish tiles, that serves the best tapas outside of Madrid that I have ever tasted. There is another Cafe Madrid in the Knox-Henderson area, but it is much more of a dive, believe it or not, and the food is not as high-quality. My favorite is the goat cheese with honey and almonds. Yum, yum…and nom nom nom nom nom….ain’t no one stand between me and that plate of coat cheese!
My friend Mary and I love the luxury of day jobs that give us some time leeway and going to all these restaurants. The only “kids” we have to worry about at home are the furry ones who don’t need babysitters!
