I had a complete hypoglycemic meltdown at work today. I nearly passed out. It was nonstop students til 2 in the afternoon, at which time I fled in search of protein.

I have got to train my students not to come in during lunchtime.

Mrs. Translator has been bothered by her bad ankle, because we talked for hours last night. I will not do that again, but until we are reunited, her evenings that she does not have to be there the next morning will be filled with conversation, by mutual consent.

      Warmest regards,

      Doc

Forgive me, but I have to ask: Does she talk with her feet?

Our mass of pickling cucumbers came in this weekend and I am elbows deep in making Bread & Butter pickles today, tomorrow it’s dills and Wednesday it’s cucumber pepper relish. Yum, another year of goodness under the belt.
Biscuit, do you eat a really good breakfast (she says wagging her finger)? Take any snacks? Hypoglycemia is nothing to sneeze at, my dear. Keep some snacks in your desk for you, besides for your students. Take care of yourself!

I usually eat a really good breakfast, but I slept through my alarm this morning (BAD sign of exhaustion in Biscuit World) and was unable to grab anything at work because I was hammered from the moment I walked in.

I usually keep nuts and snacks at my desk, but I devoured them all last week because of this.

And yes, I know. ::hangs head in shame:: I’m a lifelong hypoglycemic so I know I know I know.

Well, I feel better that you are out now getting yourself some snacks for keeping in your desk drawer.
Hey, know any place online I can buy some fresh pecans? All the ones up here are really old. I had three trees at my house in Austin that was great for producing mucho pecan for recipes.
I’m ready for a new season.

Perhaps you should hook up with someone who lives in the south (hint hint), where lots of fresh pecans are available either now or very soon.

Our pecans here are fresh, and huge. I buy them from a kid with a wheelbarrow full to the top.

That’s about how they’re sold at the farm stand I go to.

I have a student now who told me she and her husband used to make their pocket money by going around and picking pecans and selling them out of their car. A lot of people here still do that. She scolded me severely for buying them from Bryant, but zomg, Bryant has good pecans!!!!

Bryants in McAlester (where your hubs is from). OMG, wonderful pecans. Lemme look around for their URL.

Or I could check down at the farm stand and see if the pecans are in yet …

My day was almost as busy as biscuit’s Sunday, but not nearly as entertaining. I woke up this morning with pinkeye and had to spend a couple of hours at the ophthalmologist’s, which I hadn’t planned on. However, I got to see the new doctor in the practice and I like him much better than the one I’ve been going to for ten years or so. He went ahead and did a full exam since it had been (ahem) three years since the last one. And everything is perfect. No cataracts, no glaucoma, no thinning retinas, no problems. Yay! He also gave me a sample bottle of the eyedrops for the pinkeye, so that didn’t even cost anything extra. Double yay!

Oh… and he strongly believes they need a website and is going to tackle the Boss about it, so I might be doing one for them very soon. Triple yay!

Husband has a bad cold and stayed home today feeling miserable, so I got to heat up chicken soup and fluff pillows in between website pages. The client I am working for today also says she wants to talk about doing a second site for their animal adoption group. I’m developing quite a niche market in animal-related websites.

Man, just dropped one of the B&B pickle pints on the floor! Ick, hubby is cleaning it up now. How depressing. I have four pints and two half pints and they are really special. I hated the loss of one pint.
I am making Dill on Wednesday and cucumber relish on Thursday. Wow, it should be good.
I am sorry everyone is having eye problems. I have cataracts in both eyes that I will have to get fixed, but that is after the cervical thingy I have right now.

Ouch, pinkeye! I had that when I was in college, and it is pretty awful. I see a lot of it in the clinic in elementary and kindergarten teachers – those darn kids!
Scotia, I’m sorry your floor ate a whole jar of B&B pickles. I’m impressed with your pickling ability.
Is your cucumber relish sweet or savory?

Well, you know me, I can’t make a relish without some small bit of hotter peppers. That is what I am making.
I have to tell a story. One of my Mom’s best friends made the most awesome pepper relish. She got cancer and still wouldn’t give up her wonderful recipe.OK, did I tell you that my Mom and her were best friends? Well, then. I have four written out recipes for “pepper hash” from my Mother’s recipe collection. Guess I’ll have to try every one until I find her recipe so I can pass it down…she only had boys. It was sooooooooooo good!
