Good gawd almighty, I never thought this week would end.

Although it hasn’t yet, at least not for me. Tomorrow, I am taking the beasties - er, I mean, students - on a trip to a zoo.

I really must be out of my mind …

    Ode to us:

    Woe upon us
    There are only
    Three or four of us
    Oh woe
    Oh woe

    Never mind
    They forgot to
    direct deposit
    my paycheck
    or that I have
    bills being drawn on
    what isn’t there

There are only three or four of us

    refrain
    And woe is
    upon us
    There is
    or is that are?
    only three or four
    of us
    Oh woe

    And so when I sit
face to face with a student
    who should ne
    ver have gone to col
    lege in the first place

    And he asks what
    is wrong with me?
    It rings in my ears

There are only three or four of us

    What ho!
    What ho!
    The woe!

There are only three or four of us.

From Survival Tips for the Middle Aes, in response to the question what would you do if you were accidentally time-traveled back to 1000 AD:

      andy says:

Assuming I don’t get killed for this, I’d run a game of three-card Monte in the town center. The barrier to entry seems relatively low. I’d have to find a partner, first though. I’d pay off the local magistrate so they don’t put me in irons.

Once I’d made enough money from that I’d open up a bar/restaurant and introduce Europeans to the culinary 8th wonder of the world, slow-smoked Texas beef brisket and Carolina dry-rubbed pork ribs. Since those won’t be coming around for another 1000 years.

I’d take my shell game/bbq empire and use my clout to prevent the Grimaldi family from conquering the spit of land known today as Monaco, and would install myself as the prince.

You can add another woe. I had to sell my car yesterday to live another month. I think my days are numbered.
You will have a great day tomorrow. Eat a buffalo leg or arm and just relax. Do buffalo have arms?

Oh no!!! mango, why did you do that????

Have you emailed with Scotia yet?

I had 20 pesos and my rent was due. That is about two bucks. I have animals to feed and bills to pay.
Yes, Scotia has been a lot of help. I am afraid my ex may kill himself. I called him with what I thought was good news and he sounded very bad. I do not think he is taking his antidepressents and he hung up on me. Accused me of cussing him out which I did not do. I may feel like it but I know better. He is very fragile now. I told him that he has to accept the fact that our marriage is over and he replied that he would not.

And I ask why did you do that? in the most loving and nonjudgmental way possible.

Do you want my ancient landshark with the check engine light that’s been going off since last November?

I am a walker and the bus service is wonderful in Mexico. Jean loves to drive so I really never used my car that much.

                Ah good.

But we need a plan for between here and there - that is, a way that you can have assurance of paying your rent and groceries.

I am working on this, but it is a tangled web and we need time to untangle it. We need to give Mango some breathing space.
Biscuit, we need a way to support Mango until this can be settled. This WILL take time. Lawyers being what they are. Suggestions?

Lemme think on this. My mind is a bit awhirl - actually, I have a student in somewhat the same boat except 3 young children as well and I’ve been meditating on her situation.

So I have it on the back burner. Oddly, the first thing that comes to mind is eBay. ????? But maybe there’s something to that initial reaction and my mind is just too scrambled to find it.

Say hi to the giraffes and the apes. I love them.
When the circus comes to town here, they drive through town with the animals in their cages. One day they came through with camels and as they passed my house the friggin camels took the top out of my lovely almond tree.

My beloved brother, Bill and his wife Lucy are arriving from Portland at 2 PM tomorrow!!!!!
Have I told you all how special these two folks are? Bill just retired from teaching - he spent the last 19 years teaching at an “alternative” high school for kids who’ve gotten in trouble, and Lucy just retired from teaching ESL to recent immigrants. For much of their marriage, Lucy stayed home to raise their six kids - SIX KIDS on a schoolteacher’s salary. Six kids who all still love their parents (Lucy jokes that she can’t get them out of the house with a crowbar!). Six successful, handsome, loving kids (Photobucket slideshow of said beautiful kids at Nephew #2’s wedding: http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f41/drchelo/slideshow.gif )
                  (insert gif turning cartwheels here)
I went to Whole Foods and bought bread and pico de gallo and hummus and tomatoes and grapes and beautiful potatoes and all kinds of good stuff!
Then I went to the regular grocery store and got toilet paper (they have unbleached TP at half the price of Whole Foods) and regular stuff.
I’ll probably not be around very much until I recover enough from surgery to get up to the laptop again. I’ll check in when I can over the weekend.
In the meantime, you all try to behave yourselves, and biscuit - stay out of trouble!
