Just like PolitiCook, surviving against all odds in a desolate and dusty place.

Huzzah, Kate! Beautiful and wild and a survivor.

I spent the day gathering stuff for our first dinner party here on Saturday. It’s strange, we’ve been here, both of us, for 19 months, but it’s only in the last 5 months that we’ve met like-minded potential friends. I think it’s really interesting that when I moved, even though I was really glad to be where I am, I did grieve for my former home in Texas for a long time. One thing that was really curious, we have gone to the Farmer’s Market about every weekend they are open and made many acquaintences there. They ask if we miss a weekend and always chat. I sometimes bring our regulars some cookies or bread. Our sedum lady saw me with an Obama button and said, “But you’re from Texas”. Could that be a problem in liberal Olympia?

I’ve run home for a bite before my class tonight because it has been HORRID today. The student loan people are moving in like sharks, and students who are enrolled and have been continuously enrolled are being put into default. Worse, I’m dealing with liars on the part of the people who’ve put them into default and are threatening them!

Needless to say, it was a lunchless day. So I’ve grabbed a big thing of yogurt into which I’ve dumped olive oi and into which I’ve clipped cilantro and into which I’ve pinched cumin. And once I gulp it down, I’m outta here to teach my class.

Just wanted to be sure our pitiful disaster of which WE SHOULD JUST GIVE IT UP  omg what is wrong with us we are sch teh LOOSERS! knew the atrocities of the student loan industry ASAP.

I like survivors! I will take inspiration from the Valiant Little Tree.
This has been the most fabulous Fall - Indian summer since October, with the only real hint of possible winter being the cooler temperatures at night.
Scotia, you know that you will have to submit your menu for your dinner party to us for review, comment and approval. And be sure that you tell us all about your place settings, what linens you choose, what wines and all so that we can channel Martha Stewart!
Dinner parties can be maddening to prepare for, but what fun to go to and to have!
I know that your guests will have a fabulous time and will talk for days about how delicious everything was!
