This one’s an older image. Next time I am downtown I will try to get a better one with the newer camera.

You find the neatest things to photograph, Kate! I love the embellishments on old buildings; when I was in Chicago I developed a semi-permanent crick in my neck from trying to take in all the wonderful Art Deco flourishes.
      Keep those photos comin’!

If you ever get time in Los Angeles, take the Art Deco downtown walking tour. There are some REALLY spectacular buildings to see.

I’m trying to recreate a dish I used to make all. the. time. It’s a small chicken basically roasted in tomato sauce with tons of garlic and garam masala … and something else. I can’t remember what.

In any case, the house smells great and hopefully the chicken will be worth it.

Ginger? Cardamon? Coriander? Onions? Curry leaves? Tumeric?

None of those. It’s not sweet or even Indian-ish. It’s just that I discovered some years ago that garama masala and tomato sauces make heavenly chicken, but I don’t remember what else went into ti! It was something beefy in the sense of being more like bay??? maybe even horror of horrors something like capers because I was very big into capers back then but I’m pretty sure my favorite caper dish was something else.

                ????????

Oh, oh, oh! I used to make a chicken dish with onions, capers, garlic, bay and tomato sauce. It was more Moroccan in style. Lots of olive oil and spices. Maybe this is the direction?

More that direction, but with garam masala.

Maybe it was capers? Hmmm …

I just got a jar of Mezzetta capers today. They are the best and I have tried alot of capers. I put them in a good bit of stuff.

What about zucchini? Could that be your ingredient?

            Hi everyone.
I lost my internet connection nearly two weeks ago but after many phone calls and resorting to tears, I am back up. I needed a new modem and this one is so fast!
Two nights ago, I went for dinner with friends and had a wonderful steak burrito with green chile sauce. It was delicious!
About an hour after arriving home, I got so sick. The next day I was too sick to get to the doctors but around 7pm I walked down to see him. I had no sleep the night before and the cramps were horrible! He gave me medicine but I did not sleep last night either.
My cleaning lady arrived this afternoon and cleaned. An hour later she came here with some wonderful vegetable soup and a hot drink that tastes awful, but I trust her judgement. She called it something like touca.
Such a nice gesture. I hope I sleep well tonight.
I sure have missed you all.

mango, we missed you! I was getting ready to call out the Cavalry. I thought maybe you’d run off with your friend in the picture.

Sounds like you got a touch of food poisoning or the dreaded Stomach Virus ::shudder:: Glad you feel better and you have a new modem!

Mango, querida! I am so pleased to see you, but I’m sorry to hear you’ve been so ill, dear heart!
I hope that your cleaning lady’s home remedy helps you. I always find that te de manzanilla is very good at settling a rum tummy. Get well soon.

That must have been what it was. The doc said to drink guyaba but I only bought two bottles and drank it last night. I think that I am off to bed. I sure hope to sleep tonight!

Oh, Mango, we really missed you. I hope your cleaning lady’s remedy helps. I wish I could bring you some chicken soup. :-) I like chamomile tea or peppermint tea for me. Yogurt is also good for a sick tummy.
Glad you got your connection back. I hate that.

Scotia, I dropped just a couple of capers in – maybe 5-6 – but the chicken was already done, so I served myself some.

Close. Very close. But very yummy. Mmmmm, tomato and garam masala: yum.

It’s good. Not what I used to make, but similar. But it’s been ten years since I made this regularly – it’ll take a while for the memory of it to churn up to the top.

                    It’s nap worthy good!
