Welcome to the new PolitiCook. We’ve upgraded to the newest version, which has some really, really neat features. And the upgrade went as smooth as… well, you know.

HOWEVER… the back end looks very different from what you are used to!

UPDATE: Biscuit reminds me to tell you that you must log in again. All the cookies got eaten when we changed over. (Good thing we have coffee in the header.)

Click on Write New Diary in the sidebar at the right and take a look around. The new dashboard is completely customizable — you can move all those boxes around or delete the ones you don’t like.

I’ll be here all evening, so if you have questions and can’t get the thing to work, email me for help: Kate at Politi Cook dot net.

Kate, it is absolutely beautiful! :D

I think it’s worth reminding people they have to log in again – and also, it appears the site might not automatically refresh? Or is that this particular browser? The same thing happens to me on TalkLeft, and I have to hit refresh even after I’ve logged in.

Well done, Kate! I’d hoped to have a lovely inaugural post on a nice chicken soup with ginger, but I’ve been up on a ladder caulking instead of writing. Maybe later this evening or tomorrow!

It’s a combination of your browser and the fact that I chose not to use a lot of AJAXy scripts — they slow down load times, they’re server-intensive, and I was a little concerned about people with older browsers (not to mention any names ::cough::biscuit::cough::).

I’ll add that bit about having to log in again. I forgot to mention that the cookies all got eaten.

Well, I’d rather refresh than deal with a bunch of stupid scripts that slow things down. There are a couple of sites I’m crazy about that I rarely visit, in fact, because they have so many doodads running that they take forever to load AND, about half the time, crash me. Very annoying.

        Oh, and thank you! :)

Ack. I forgot to update the smilie list in the new code. Back shortly.

It really is lovely. It’s good inspiration to get back to writing!

Kate, you did a wonderful job on the upgrade! I think it looks so modern and inviting. Thanks!

I am so proud of her!

I personally want to state right here and now that she should update whenever she feels like it, and dink with the layout at will. Her taste is gorgeous!

I second that motion! Kate is our blog goddess!

It looks like we all need avatars? Cool! I am loving this site. I was getting tired of the previous one reminding us all of the past. Maybe all the cool sites need to go thru a metamorphosis occasionally. Oh, and I REALLY like the larger text!

I turned off the avatars but can turn them back on again if you want them. I personally don’t much like them but will ignore if you guys want them.

Well, Kate wasn’t ever really given the opportunity to show off her talents on the old site, but she is now! Besides, we’ve transitioned far beyond whatever the original intent was, which I’m not sure I even remember. :P

We’re a work in progress – definitely a stew, a slow blogging experience – and I’m so happy we’re really beginning to move that direction.

It will be fun to see where we’re at in six months!

Double ack. I appear to have lost the cowbell smiley. Biscuit, do you remember where you found it?

I think that site got taken down. But I’ll nose around and see what I can come up with.

My daughter may have saved it. I’ve sent her a message to ask.

Brava, brava, Kate! You have done an absolutely stellar job!
I’m really pleased with the new look, and I’m happily anticipating any new stuff that comes along.
Although I must admit that when I first clicked on the site, I thought I’d punched in the wrong bookmark.

I had a warning page up for a short while, but the upgrade went soooo smoothly that I was done in about 20 minutes. The last time I had to do a major WP upgrade, the whole site broke and I was profane for three days.

I like this way much better. :)

Very UN-smooth as silk episode at Whole Foods today. Remember when I ordered the special chocolatey-decadent chocolate cake for the radiation therapy staff? Well, I went to pick it up this afternoon, and they had absolutely no record of me ever being there, no record of the paper I filled out, with the dimensions and kind of chocolate cake I wanted – and no one could find the paper, and the woman who had taken my order was of course, not there.
I was PISSED. I spoke to a manager and to the bakery supervisor, but there were no fresh chocolate cakes available for me to take to my treatment tomorrow. So I guess no chocolately decadent chocolate cake for the radiation therapy department staff tomorrow.
Good thing I bought all those expensive, pretty cards for the staff. At least I’ll have something to give them.
I’m still mad as hell at Whole Foods.

                        drchelo,
I am so sorry for the loss of a cake. When I got married, the sandwiches and cheese and veggie trays I had ordered at the WF were not prepared. Well, at that point I turned into Bridezilla! My daughter (the wonderful Rio) negotiated and got everything made and at 1/2 price in time for the wedding!
Go here http://www.centralmarket.com/Stores/Dallas.aspx and I bet you can get something!

Omg, I’m so sorry, drchelo. I wish I were closer and we didn’t have an ice storm – I’d whip you up a chocolate torte myself. I am so so sorry!!

Thank you, Scotia and biscuit. I think what I will do is to order some of those divine chocolate chip cookies from Dodie’s; if I call them in the morning, they’ll have them ready for me by tomorrow afternoon by about 2 PM.
That way, the good people at the radiation center can get their cards in the morning, and Dodie’s chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon!
