Speaking of which, I bought a turkey today. It’s defrosting now. I get the dark meat, and the rest will be devoted to doggie food.
Ohhh, roasted turkey bones-turkey broth-skin-split the white and dark meat! Yum!
Yup yup yup yup yup!
And … dark meat! ::drool::
I currently have a turkey thigh defrosting in the fridge! We get them from our organic and local meat market. They are really delicious! Don’t know what I’m making out of it yet, but it will be good.
I’m debating how to stuff mine. It will most likely be something corn-mealy, but no onions because part of it will be going to doggie food, and onions and garlic can trigger anemia in some dogs.
So … I’m still debating. I’m going to a meeting tomorrow am and will probably stop by the local market – I’d call it farmers market because technically that’s what it is but it’s not THE Farmers Market so I won’t call it that
– and browse to see what I can pick up there to stuff it with. So far, though, I’m thinking sweet pots, some corn mealy stuff, some … ???
Maybe celery and carrots or squash? That sounds good. Oh, and LOTS of broth!
Oh, the other thing is some fruit, maybe apples or pears? Whatever…fruit would be good for the stuffing.
I swear, you’re psychic, Scotia. I was just ruminating about making a nice sangria to go with it because i have a surplus of oranges. But I have apples, too. I think apples, some kind of cornmeal crumbly stuff, sweet pots … something meaty … sage, definitely – and whatever else looks good at the market!
And sangria anyway. Cheap, and I’m expecting youngsters this weekend (well, 20 yr olds) – and they’ll think sangria is just The Height of sophistication.
Here ya go…this is really the best! Let it sit for a while, maybe a day and serve at near room temp. Really brings out the flavors.
Cha Cha Cha Sangria
1 orange & 1 lemon cut in 1/8″ slices
1 C sugar
1 btl dry white wine
1 btl dry red wine
sliced fruit like apples, pears, cherries, peaches, grapes, strawberries, etc, etc whatever is fresh
Gin, Grand Marnier or brandy to taste (or all three!)
Combine fruits, sugar and wines and refrigerate overnight, add spirits before serving.
Excellent! Of course, I’ll doodle with it, and it will end up looking something like …
2 oranges and 1 lime
1 C sugar
1-2 bottles meaty red wine
Maybe some apples, but definitely no peaches
Cointreau to taste!
