Pictured are wild poinsettias, which are considered a scourge in South America, for reasons which make no sense to me because they’re a favorite of bees and butterflies (especially Monarchs), and they’re so shallow rooted that they simply don’t eat up ground space like “real” invasives.

I proudly proclaim that, yes, I am the person who introduced the wild poinsettia to Cherokee County sometime back in 2001? 2002? and, if you’re one of the many people around Tahlequah who’ve found it popping up in your yards, you can thank (or blame :P ) … me!

Oh, and I haven’t yet figured out eggplant, garlic, melons, corn and a host of other things. But I’ve got the list started!

Anyone who wants to split the pound of Scarlet Runner Beans with me, let me know!!!

Never mind – Kate, I just saw your other post. I’ll split the Scarlet Runners with you. I believe I owe you anyway for some lovely potatoes …

You don’t owe me for potatoes, but I will gladly split the beans with you. :)

But you sent me a box of beautiful blue potatoes that have naturalized in the back yard of my other place and become Wild Potatoes.

Good morning. Cora is not well this morning. She had her rabies and other shots yesterday and was just fine until we woke up. She is on the sofa covered up and not on my lap as usual. She made a little cry when I picked her up and she wants to be alone. Damm it! The vet care is so bad here and he is not open every day. I lost my little Josie when a vet gave her the wrong medicine and killed her.

I am so sorry, mango! Poor baby! What in the world could he have given her to make her feel so badly?

She had her normal booster shots and he trimmed her nails. She was just fine when we went to bed.

It might take a while – it’s a work day here, after all. But as soon as i hear anything, I’ll post it on this thread.

Querida mangocita – I am so sorry to hear that Corazon is not feeling well after her immunizations. I don’t know what vaccines the vet gave her, but I did a quick search of the veterinary literature to look up adverse reactions to vaccines, and what I found was – not much. They do report allergic reactions to vaccines, which can be treated successfully with benadryl – give one milligram per pound of body weight every four hours. In Mexico, benadryl may be sold as “difenhydramina” (“diphenhydramine”) the generic name. Kiddie benadryl is usually 6.25 milligrams per teaspoon, so that may be easier to give her (you may want to use a syringe).
In human kiddos who have to get multiple immunizations all at once, the day after many may run fevers and have the blahs – and if Cora seems to be hurting, you can give her aspirin, at 10 milligrams per pound of body weight every 12 hours. If she’ll eat, you can give her one baby aspirin (I’m assuming Corazon is a little dog, about 8-10 pounds) in a meatball twice a day, and that will relieve her aches and pains.
I have used both aspirin and benadryl on my dogs safely for years. DO NOT GIVE HER TYLENOL (acetaminophen) as it is poisonous to dogs. Give her a bland diet, rice and chicken is good, and broth in her water to encourage fluids.
Not only do I dispense human medical advice, I am full of it when it comes to home veterinary remedies!
I will also be bending St. Francis’ ear for your little Corazon!

Thanks drchelo. I will get her to the vet and ask for the benadryl. She is so lethargic and I am scared. My friend is coming over and if Gail cannot cheer her up then I know we are in trouble.
                You are a saint.

You don’t have to go to the vet for benadryl – you can get it at any pharmacy. It is sold in tablet and liquid form.

mango, you did *not* hijack the thread! What is the purpose of blogs if not to actually get something useful out of them?

I’m just so grateful that drchelo was able to help you. Now, you have to keep us posted on how she’s doing!

We just returned from the vets office. He gave her a shot of the benadryl and said she should feel better within two hours. Her tia Gail is here and when she heard her voice she went to the gate. I think she will be ok. Thanks for your help.

The new computer has arrived. It’s different, of course, but my major concern is the glossy screen that reflects *everything* — lights, windows, dogs passing behind me… me…. I was totally not expecting that. My current laptop has a matte screen and all the shiny is going to drive me nuts in very short order.

I’ve ordered an anti-glare protector for it. I hope that will help.
