biscuit mentioned in her post below that she is ramping up the resumé and preparing her best for recession. My business is booming at the moment — I’m almost too busy — but I’ve been worrying for some months about what will happen as the economy sours further.

Yesterday an email arrived, a posting to one of the lists I belong to, in which the writer referred to a SWOT analysis being helpful to her business pursuits. A quick Google showed me that this stands for “Strengths – Weaknesses – Opportunities – Threats.” Basically, you set up a two-by-two grid:

Strengths Weaknesses
Opportunities Threats

Then you take a look at both Strengths/Opportunities to find new directions to move into, and Weaknesses/Threats to develop protective strategies. You can do this on a personal level as well as business, although business is my focus this weekend.

I throw this idea out there because we aren’t all quite as prescient as our biscuit, who knows what’s going to happen and can plan for it without too much effort. I just have vague forebodings of bad things coming down the pike, and I need to have plans in place.

Oh, SWOT analysis! I just found out about it last year at a conference where they suggested using it with both yourself as an instructor and whatever curriculum you write.

I then found out it’s very popular in business analysis.

I have yet to do it, but it’s supposed to be *very* effective.

As for my prescience, – if I really were, I would have known payment for a couple of things would not be forthcoming and i would have adjusted my plans accordingly several months ago. Oh well! At least we’re all in the same boat … kind of.

btw, yesterday I discovered a truly stunning locally made pico de gallo. omg! I brought it home and mixed it with the end of the lovely salsa I buy every week at the little store down the street, and i just had my morning eggs (from chickens I don’t really know, but have been introduced to) atop a bed of the two – to die for! omg, I am in heaven!!!!! So good!

Yes, it’s apparently some kind of MBA thing you learn in business school, which I didn’t go to so was sadly clueless. I’m not sure how much it will help — it’s difficult to be objective about my own strengths and weaknesses — but I’ll surely give it a try.

        Enjoy your pico!
