When I talked with drchelo, we spoke of Dallas, doggies, quaint houses, recipes, life and seafood. She requested that we have crustaceans for her. Last Saturday we did. It was Sweetie’s birthday and we had South Sound oysters and Westport/Pacific Ocean shrimp, toasting drchelo with a good bottle of Pinot Gris that we had at a wine tasting that afternoon. I think she would have approved. It was simple, elegant and fresh.

The half dozen oysters were simply boiled in two bottles of a good microbrew until the shells opened served with a homemade red sauce (just organic ketchup and wasabi paste to taste). The big, red Pacific shrimp were shelled and sauteed in EVOO, a little butter, minced garlic, a little salt & freshly cracked black pepper and some freshly squeezed lemon juice until the shrimp were curled and pink and served over spaghetti with the sauce that was cooked down. I had some fresh sugar snap peas that I also sauteed in EVOO with some fresh ginger and a nice salad with a fresh tarragon/vinegar/EVOO dressing.

I am so, so glad you posted this. drchelo and I talked about — hold on, now, hold on to your hat — watermelon.
Then we’d talk about some other less interesting stuff before the coversation would turn back to … watermelon.
I was going to call her the Sunday after she died, too, but because of the sheer, earthly lust in her when she talked about watermelon, I thought for sure we had another few weeks. A little more time. But we didn’t.
Needless to say, I’ve been eating watermelon every day in her honor – wonderfully sweet, pure watermelon, and raising slices in her honor. And I was going to post about it, but I just didn’t know.
So it makes me so very, very glad that you posted about her and her crustaceans. And it makes me think she slipped away from us because she wanted us to remember her not in her frailty, but in her sheer joy and lust for watermelon – and crustaceans.
What a BEAUTIFUL dinner! YUUMMM! I can only get fresh-caught seafood once a month, when the guy with the roadside stand comes up from the Gulf Coast. I don’t buy any fish from the supermarket, anymore. I know my cash is going to the fishermen. But, I’ll have to wait at least another week until they come up.
So…
Dinner Tonight:
I’ll have a memorial crustacean dinner for drchelo this coming week.

Oh, grilled yellow squash and a sliced tomato. ::primitive grunting noises:: Two of my very favorite things.
biscuit, I envy your your watermelon. I think we will have to get a small one for the 4th. Have you ever had an Israel watermelon? My MIL is growing them and says they are really sweet and good. I think toasting drchelo with a slice is perfect!!! YES, drchelo’s lust and kindness is what I will keep in my heart always.
MF, the cutest thing…Evan, our fisherman, looked at his watch and said, “these oysters came out of the Sound exactly 6 1/2 hours ago!” I love all your growing produce and BEER!!! That white gazpacho sounds really good. Can I use a Kirby? I really like the flavor better and it’s easier on my tummy. Like you, I am getting dribs and drabs of stuff. I envy your tomato. I just have flowers yet. We just had 6 homegrown strawberries for dessert!
