Need a little help here
Written by Translator on August 20, 2008 – 7:30 pm -I have lots of summer, yellow straight neck squash. I would like to freeze it, but do not know how to blanch it properly without cooking it. Any suggestions? Any would be appreciated. I think that I have a better handle on the okra, just coat it and cook until about half done, the let cool and then bag and freeze. Thanks for any insights! Warmest regards, Doc.

Soup To Warm Your Soul
Written by Scotia48 on May 23, 2008 – 2:47 pm -Here is a frugal soup that I have made many, many times. I promised allep 10 I would post it. It goes really well with AAF’s bread.
Each time I make it I think of Julia and my Mother. Mom loved watching Julia on PBS and made alot of the recipes there. I’ve adapted this a bit, but you can do what you want with it. If you find a really good bargain on potatoes, you can double this and add regular yellow onions and it works just as well. The more broth, either chicken or vegetable, the more flavor. I’ve also saved potato water from boiling mashed potatoes to use. That works, too. The soup freezes really well.

It is very widespread in the United States, except for the mountain states, Alaska, and Hawaii. Almost everyone outside of those areas has seen poke, but may not realize it.
A very striking and handsome plant, poke is almost always recognized after it is too late to pick and eat, with a single exception that I will mention later. By the time most folks see it, it is several feet high and has purple stems, and is in flower or has already started to set deep purple racemes of fruit. Some people plant it as an ornamental.
